Well-being

‘Enhancing the well-being of our clients’, a report published by Community Insight, is the first ever assessment of the well-being needs of Lift clients and was carried out to identify priorities for future Lift initiatives to increase well-being.

The report draws on work by the New Economics Foundation to identify behaviour that is likely to enhance individual well-being (defined as feeling good and functioning well) and uses this behaviour as a benchmark against which to assess clients of the A Chance 2 Work pre-employment service. Research started with the development of questions that would indicate if clients usually demonstrated behaviour that would be likely to enhance well-being.

A sample of 30 clients were interviewed by four of Community Insight’s peer researchers, who asked about behaviour and client’s preferences in relation to initiatives to improve their well-being. These interviews revealed that many of Lift’s clients do usually demonstrate behaviour that enhances well-being, however it was also clear that most clients could be doing more to maximise their well-being. There was interest in a number of activities, especially relating to fitness, mentoring and counselling, which Lift will seek funding to implement in the near future.
