We are recruiting!!

Adult Social Care (ASC) Project Background:

Brent Council’s ASC Department wants service users to be part of the consultation and development process to how services will be shaped. This is a chance to ensure that services suit the service user’s needs and are not just re-developed by policy makers and service providers. To ensure this happens, Lift has been commissioned to recruit and train a broad spectrum of service users become involved in the process.

Service users that are recruited to participate in the project will be able to have their voices heard and influence decision making processes at Brent Council and be supported throughout the project by Lift. Activities that service users will be able to participate in include conducting Safeguarding visits to care homes, monitoring and reviewing contracts with ASC’s external providers such as Meals on Wheels, and being consulted on various ASC Strategies.

The service users in the project will be split into 3 main areas for interest which are Procurement, Contact Management, and Strategy. All service users will also part of an overall Service User Group (SUG) called Bheard.

The role of the Volunteer Mentor Coordinator has been created to support the service users as part of this project.

Purpose of Support:

There are currently over 40 service users that are engaged with the ASC Involvement Project as Bheard with Brent Council. We are looking to engage an ongoing 50 plus service users in 2014 with the potential of this number rising in the future.

To ensure that the service users are supported individually and collectively Lift would like to offer more structured support to Bheard. The support offered will aim to address each of the service user’s individual needs through 1:1 support conducted on a regular bases with the Volunteer Mentoring Coordinator. This will support in capturing any individual learning needs, concerns, training needs, and manage expectations.

The Volunteer Mentoring Coordinator and the Involvement Coordinator will use the information collected from these 1:1 meetings and monitoring systems to better inform the project, capture lessons learnt, and deliver training to meet the group’s needs.
